DESCRIPTION:About the Event \nAre you interested in the potential for community groups and organisations in Solihull to design\, develop\, own or manage their own homes? \nAcross the country\, community groups and organisations are designing homes that are affordable\, that meet their needs and build communities\, not just houses. We’d like to see more of this happening in Solihull\, so we’re co-hosting this workshop together with the Council. It will be an opportunity to hear about ‘the art of the possible’ demonstrated by existing community led housing projects\, discuss why it could be an important part of the housing mix in Solihull and what the opportunities could be in the local context. \nEveryone is welcome – maybe you are an individual\, community group or organisation interested in housing solutions for your community\, or perhaps you work for a potential partner organisation like a housing association or developer. The more the merrier. \nWe are keen to understand why you are interested in community led housing and what might help or hinder you in pursuing a project idea. Whether you are just starting to learn about it or have some ideas in mind or projects on the go. Housing developments and refurbishments range from eco-build housing\, to supported housing\, to affordable housing for young people and everything in between! \nIs this something you can see yourself being involved in? Come and join us for an informal\, friendly introduction to community led housing. Everyone is welcome! \nMeet people who are on their community led housing journeys and those who have realised their ambitions to build community led housing. Our guest speakers will include: \nLinda Hines\, Chair at Witton Lodge Community Association – Linda moved to Perry Common in 1977\, having never worked in the community and never really understanding what those who did got out of it. Her home in Perry Common was one of 908 that had to be demolished in 1989. Linda became a Director of Witton Lodge Community Association in 1996 and is now Chair of the organisation. She has 28 years of experience enabling residents to get involved and feel the benefit of making a difference themselves and was awarded an M.B.E. in 2009. \nEddy Morton\, Stourbridge Community Land Trust – Eddy is a Director of Stourbridge Community Development Trust. They have established Stourbridge Community Land Trust which is working on a plan for the ‘Stourbridge PowerHaus’. This scheme aims to provide eleven flats at affordable rent\, plus a shared community workspace\, solar power\, an electric car sharing hub\, roof garden and bike storage. They want to create a more sustainable model of living in Stourbridge\, doing their bit to address rent affordability\, energy affordability and climate change.

She spent 18 of those years on 20/20’s management committee and now works for Birmingham Co-operative Housing Services. She’ll be talking about the beauty of living in a co-op – more than just a home. \nKaren Williams\, Chief Officer at Bushbury Hill Estate Management Board – Bushbury Hill are a small housing organisation based in Wolverhampton – run by tenants\, for tenants. Recently they’ve been busy creating lockdown memories\, as well as making plans to build some new homes! Karen is also a board member on two national tenants organisations\, who campaign for tenants’ rights and tenant management. \nWe have two sessions in January\, depending on what time suits you: This one at 12 noon on Friday 8th January or another at 7pm on Tuesday 12th January.

DESCRIPTION:About the Event\nGuest speakers from Leeds Community Homes and Homes England are joining us to present this information session for community housing groups and organisations\, on behalf of West Midlands Urban Community Homes.\nIn this session we will address the question which many current and potential community housing entities are presently wrestling with: access to Homes England funding and whether the decision to become a Registered Provider is the right one for your organisation. \n\nOur presenters will cover the following areas:\nContext around community housing and the current funding situation\, and what it actually means in broad terms to access Homes England Funding and to be a Registered Provider – Jimm Reed\nAlternatives to registration – how different forms of partnerships can work instead – Andy Lloyd\nExperience of the process of registration – what you can expect to go through\, how long it might take and some tips – Gemma Gates\nHear from Homes England about their new Affordable Housing programme and about their experiences of working with community housing organisations\, both those becoming RPs themselves and those working in partnership with RPs – Graham Brookfield\nQ&A\n\nAbout our speakers:\nJimm Reed is a development professional with 20 years’ experience of creating affordable housing in housing association and community housing sectors. He is Development Director of Leeds Community Homes and is leading the process of RP registration for LCH\, as well as advising several client organisations currently considering it. \nAndy Lloyd is a highly experienced community housing consultant and qualified CLH advisor and he has been involved in a number of successful projects where partnership with an RP has been central to the successful outcome. \nGemma Gates is Community Housing Project Coordinator for New Wortley Community Association in Leeds\, and has been leading on an RP application process over the past year. She also works for Leeds Community Homes and is involved in supporting their registration. \nGraham Brookfield works for Homes England in the Midlands Affordable Housing Growth Team. Prior to this current role\, he worked at Homes England on the Community Housing Fund programme in the North East\, Yorkshire and Humber.
