Curious about community led housing?

April 1, 2021/in Blog /by iDC

Are you interested in creating a new housing solution for your community that is designed, owned or managed by people from that community? Community Led Housing might be the solution you are looking for.

Communities across the country are designing homes that are affordable, that meet their needs and build communities, not just houses. Housing developments and refurbishments range from eco-build housing, to supported housing, to affordable housing for young people and everything in between.

Is this something you can see yourself being involved in? You might like to check out the recording from our recent event giving you an introduction to community led housing. You can watch it and download the slides below.

Please get in touch with us if you’d like to have a chat about your ideas, how to get involved or what support we can offer. Email us at [email protected]

Our Development Manager Abi gives an overview and is joined by our wonderful speakers Linda and Eddy:

Linda Hines, Chair at Witton Lodge Community Association – Linda moved to Perry Common in 1977, having never worked in the community and never really understanding what those who did got out of it. Her home in Perry Common was one of 908 that had to be demolished in 1989. Linda became a Director of Witton Lodge Community Association in 1996 and is now Chair of the organisation. She has 28 years of experience enabling residents to get involved and feel the benefit of making a difference themselves and was awarded an M.B.E. in 2009.

Eddy Morton, Stourbridge Community Land Trust – Eddy is a Director of Stourbridge Community Development Trust. They have established Stourbridge Community Land Trust which is working on a plan for the ‘Stourbridge PowerHaus’. This scheme aims to provide eleven flats at affordable rent, plus a shared community workspace, solar power, an electric car sharing hub, roof garden and bike storage. They want to create a more sustainable model of living in Stourbridge, doing their bit to address rent affordability, energy affordability and climate change.
